Note: This article is to be shared with the young man in your life! Rip it out and put it in his favorite comic book if you have to, but make sure he reads it!

Many if not all young girls dream of how their sweetheart will ask for their hand in marriage. These daydreams are fueled by the magic of Hollywood and their own imaginations. This places a lot of pressure on young men who are expected to be brilliant, sentimental, creative, thoughtful, spontaneous, and psychic. Sounds near impossible, doesnʼt it? It doesnʼt have to be.

Tips for Proposing
Plan ahead!!!! The two of you have been courting for awhile now, you have picked out a ring, and now she is watching you like a hawk. Gentlemen, we donʼt envy your position, but rest assured there is hope. Your sweetheart wants to be surprised and above all wants to know how much you care. Think back on the time you two have spent together and pick out some fun memories or locations that mean something to you. Depending on your lady you will need to think of something simple or theatrical, and this can get overwhelming. But there are professionals out there who can help.

Involve a Professional
Today, more and more couples are trusting professional videographers with their proposals. Not only have they done this many times before, but they know little nuances that can take a proposal from special to spectacular! This is a story that will be told innumerable times, why not have a film made to show what really happened? Also, this will give you total control of the beauty of the moment. Your future children will treasure this reminder of when your family started. Ask around and search the web to be sure you find someone you trust. Often there are samples of their work online which can also aid your creativity.

Make the Call
We know itʼs tempting to use your buddy (he has a pretty sweet camera!), or family member hiding in the bushes, but trust us, your film will not turn out as well. Call or email your videographer of choice to set up a consultation. These are free of charge and extremely helpful. You can both get a feel for how the other works and if you can form a successful partnership. As your ideas are discussed, the professional will often volunteer a few thoughts or tweaks that will make your proposal more cinematic. Be open to these ideas, but stand firm on those you feel strongly about. Remember, this is YOUR show. The wedding is all about the bride (sorry to break it to you, the groom is her arm-candy), but the proposal is ALL YOU. Make it the best you can!

Audio is SO Important
Be sure that your videographer has the appropriate audio equipment for your proposal. They should be equipped with camera mounted and wireless microphones to insure every word is captured clearly. Because you will not be placing a mic on your sweetheart, they should also inform you how to compensate so her answer of, “Yes!” will be heard for generations to come.

Final Check
Have a plan and share it with all the players. Make sure that your friends and family all know where to be and what they should and should not be doing when the time comes. It also helps to have a walk-through at the location the day before (without your sweetheart of course). The professional videographer will attend and work out microphone and camera placement, and any additional ʻactorsʼ involved will welcome this rehearsal time. Not only that, but YOU will be less nervous if you have a clear idea of what will happen.

Showtime
Donʼt be too obvious, try for a time when she least expects it. And remember to BREATHE! If she catches on that youʼre a bundle of nerves your cover may be blown. Keep in mind that she loves you and will love you no matter what. Put your trust in your friends and videographer and let them worry about things. You just relax and remember what the prize is when itʼs all over.

What to Say
If you are like most guys, you stick to one work answers and short sentences. This is a situation where that is not going to cut it. Women love to hear what they mean to you and how you feel about them. Take some time beforehand to plan what you want to say. It may even help to write something down. Think about what you love about her. What makes her special? Why do you want to spend the rest of your life with her? The more you come from your heart the more you will melt hers. Just remember, SLOW DOWN and BREATHE!

Rewards
Well, you did it! She said yes and you two kissed and hugged. She is on cloud nine and you are just glad you can breathe normally again. At this point the videographer and ʻactorsʼ will be emerging from their places and congratulate you both. They may also ask for some re-enactments in order to get a different angle or close-up. Be open to this and have fun. When all is said and done, your fiancee, friends, family, and people you havenʼt even met yet will give you ʻmad propsʼ for planning such an amazing moment and making sure it was captured on film. Congratulations! You did it!

Creative wedding bouquet wraps

Of course the bridal bouquet is the star of the show when it comes to wedding flowers, and often the fine details are what make a bridal bouquet truly distinctive. There are a variety of enchanting ways to complete a bouquet, from ribbons and beads to other fine accents. Allow me to share with you a few ideas for creative and beautiful bouquet wraps and holders.

1. An unusual way to finish a bouquet holder is to use Equisetum and natural raffia instead of traditional ribbon.

2. Lace above satin adds a very romantic look to the simple rose bouquet.

3. If you want to add a truly distinctive look to your country style bouquet, consider wrapping Curly Willow around the bouquet holder. White pearls add even more charm to this unusual bridal bouquet.

4. For an elegant look, just add a few layers of pearls at the bottom of the bouquet holder. Doesn’t it look awesome?

I LOVED working with Beth & Elliott! They are so gracious and elegant couple! Love the wedding colors: orange, white and true blue. The couple got married in the St. George LDS Temple, followed by a reception at a private residence. Beth and Elliott wanted a simple, garden-themed reception. Beth & Elliott's wedding was featured on Utah Bride & Groom Magazine blog back in December 2010.

HOW DID YOU MEET?

We met at work in St. George, UT. I came in for an interview and Elliott was the one to give me a tour of the building. I was the first to catch his eye but it didn't take long for him to catch mine.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE?

While visiting St. George, we found an old out of commission tandem bike. We bought it for around 17 dollars and took back to home to Salt Lake City. We spent a couple of months fixing up the bike together. One Saturday in November, Elliott and I had planned to finish the bike and take it out for it's first ride. Elliott, however, had different plans. He coordinated with my mom to get me out of the house in the morning. My mom and I left and little did I know Elliott was in my garage finishing the bike. When I got home, he called me and told me to come outside. He was standing in my driveway and the bike was finished! He had loaded the basket with something (I couldn't tell what it was). We took the bike down the driveway and out into the street only to have the bike chain break (it had to be over 30 years old). Luckily where he was planning on going was across the street from a bike shop so we planned to cruise down the hill to the shop. When we got there he kept idling in front of the bike shop and looking to his left. It took me a couple of seconds to see what he kept looking at, but eventually I caught on. The local Tower Theatre across the street had a personalized message on it's marquee. It read "Beth will you marry me?" He then got down on his knee and asked if I would. Of course, I said yes. In the basket he had brought a few of my favorite treats and a thermos of hot chocolate.

WEDDING THEME: Simple, garden. Colors were true blue, white, and mango.

MENU: Luncheon: Jimmy John sandwiches, homemade chicken pasta salad, jones soda, and homemade sugar cookies. Reception: Catered by 25 Main in St. George, UT. This was one of our favorite restaurants while we were living in St. George. It was perfect for our wedding. They provided a strawberry poppy seed salad, bruschetta, fruit, turkey and smoked ham sandwich wraps and lemonade. We also had éclairs (from a different bakery), and cake of course! (made by Bridal Cakes by Yvonne ).

THE BRIDE WORE:

An eggshell dress made by the seamstress at The Bride Shop in Salt Lake City, UT. Accessories included a pearl necklace and pearl earrings from the groom.

THE GROOM WORE:

A dark grey morning suit, white dress shirt, black leather shoes, and a blue, white, and grey tie.

SOMETHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD/SHARE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING?

We brought the tandem bike down from Salt Lake to be part of the wedding. It was on display at our reception. We also rode off on the bike when we left the reception. Also, one of our favorite things about the wedding reception was the photo booth we rented. To sign the guest book, guests had to go and get their picture taken in the booth, post their picture in the book, and sign next to it.

ADVICE YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE TO THE FEATURE BRIDES AND GROOMS:

Have fun with wedding plans and the actual day. It's your day. Start planning early, don't be afraid to delegate responsibilities, and just enjoy it! It doesn't have to be perfect for it to be your perfect day (one of my bridesmaid's hair caught on fire). Find simple locations and find creative ways to make it personal, fun, and different. Remember what the wedding is really about and don't stress about all the small details.

Carnations as wedding flowers? YES!!!!!!!!: Centerpieces

A few weeks ago I did a post about using carnations as additional flowers in centerpieces, bouquets and boutonnieres. Today I would like to talk about using carnations as a main flower in wedding floral designs.

Ever wonder how many different styles of wedding centerpieces can be created with carnation pomander balls? I want to share with you a few that I have created lately.

1. Tall clear vase with 3 yellow Gerbera Daisies arranged inside and with a purple Carnation Pomander ball on the top. A bit of colorful wire completes this distinctive arrangement.

2. Four different colored Carnation Pomander balls create a very striking centerpiece. Birds of Paradise and Roses add a tropical look to this intriguing arrangement.

3. Three different colors of Carnation Pomanders placed on various height vases. You could add some flowers inside the vases or place rose petals around them to add even more flavor to this charming centerpiece.

4. Carnations play an important role in this centrepiece that combines 3 arrangements of different shapes and sizes. Purple Gladiolus, green Chrysanthemums and a green Carnations pomander come together in this unusual and trendy centrepiece.

5. Carnations create an elegant welcome for your guests at the entrance to the reception center. Don’t they look great?

Love Story: Niki & Eli

Today is actually MY wedding anniversary! It has already been 4 years since Paul and I got married! Wow – how time flies...It is interesting that I scheduled Niki & Eli's Love Story to be posted today (to be honest I completely forgot that it was my wedding anniversary and I only remembered when my hubby asked me what I would like to do for our anniversary...oops). But anyway, Niki and Eli are absolutely special to me...I enjoyed working with Niki, but what is more important, we become great friends! And it is not just because we both have expensive taste and love nice things... :) Niki is very smart, genuine, knows what she wants and she knows what real friendship means. I only spoke with Eli for just a few minutes on their wedding day, but, it was enough for me to realize that these two were created for each other! Here is Niki & Eli's love story!

Niki’s version: I was a merchandising associate at Sears, just out of high school; Eli worked in the home improvement department. We started exchanging friendly hellos that turned flirty! Anytime I would need manager’s help, he would be the first to jump in to help, or somehow he would find himself in my department of the store….. after letting his friend know that I was interested and he should ask me out, he finally got the courage to stalk me at the store all day, corner me in the back room and nervously (and very cutely) ask me out on a date.

Eli’s version: Had worked with Niki for a couple months and finally asked her out.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST FUN DATE YOU'HE BEEN ON AS A COUPLE?

Niki: I think the first time we went to Vegas. We walked around and watched the water show at the Bellagio. Ultra romantic.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE QUALITIES ABOUT EACH OTHER?

Niki: He is funny and charming; he cares about his family and is always concerned about me.
Eli: She is warm and loving, and cares about me and my family.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE?

Niki: It was Christmas Eve, and we always open our presents to each other on Christmas Eve because we usually spend the night at his parent’s house that night. We were sitting in front of the tree and we were about done opening gifts when I said we should probably get going to his parent’s house soon. He said ‘what makes you think we’re done?’ then he said that he wanted me to stand up, and knowing him I though he was going to give me a necklace or something because he said it was “kinda cheesy” so I’m standing there, completely unaware of what he is doing, with my eyes closed, and…. The doorbell rings. He’s like “Don’t open your eyes!” So apparently our neighbour of 3 months decided that 9 pm on Christmas Eve was the appropriate time to come introduce her. So she brought candy and whatnots, so I of course was distracted. As soon as she walks away, Eli was like “go back to the tree and close your eyes” by this time I was starting to get somewhat suspicious. So there I am, by the tree eyes closed, and he asked if I was ready. I said yes, and he was all “I don’t think you are..” then he said I could open my eyes, and there he was, kneeling next to the tree, ring in hand and a huge smile on his face. I was so shocked, I just stood there. Finally I started to cry and said yes!

Red, White & Tiffany Blue Wedding Full of Roses

Congratulations to Jessica and Stephen who got married in August in sunny St George (in Southern Utah). Their colors were red, white and tiffany blue. Jessica wanted to have a million red Roses (well, almost)!

A Summer wedding ceremony on the Terrace in front of the water fall with hundreds of red Roses, Manzanita Trees, Crystals and thousands rose petals along the aisle – sounds like a dream wedding, doesn’t it?

Their three tier Red Velvet wedding cake was accented with red Roses and Tiffany Blue ribbon.

Bridal Bouquet of 3 dozen red Roses accented with sparkling crystals looked absolutely stunningly gorgeous!

Centerpieces: Red Roses and white painted Curly Willow arranged in the 11” clear glass rectangular vase with off-white stones on the bottom.

Sign-in table arrangement: white China Mums, red Roses, white Oriental Lilies, red Gerberas and Curly Willow painted in Tiffany Blue color. Rose petals were fixed on the Curly willow and the Bear grass.

Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours!

I think it is a great tradition to gather together to give thanks for all the blessings we all have in our lives. I am very fortunate to have in my life:

- an amazing husband who is also my true and very loving and supportive friend

- our furry and purring kids – my spoiled cats Orange and Arnie, our 3 year old playful Golden Retriever San'ka (aka Alexander) who is still very much a puppy :), golden fish Spyke and his swimming tailed family :). They teach me to be a kind, thoughtful and loving Mom. :)

- 2 loving families who live on the opposite sides of the world - in Russia (my parents and sisters) and in America (my American mom and all the brothers and sisters)

- my dear (TRUE!!!) friends - old ones from Russia and new ones from America :)

- my amazing clients, the Brides and Grooms, their families, and even puppies who come for a sleep over and play with our son - Golden Retriever San'ka

- the incredible business friends - who support me not only with my business, but with the charitable projects I have been involved in lately.

I wish for each of you to have a holiday (well...not just a holiday, but always) filled with gratitude, true friends, loving families, fun, love, joy and laughter.

5. What are your favorite qualities about each other?

Jessica: Stephen would do anything for anyone, he has the sweetest heart and is so caring.
Stephen: Very caring and supportive and always goes out of her way to please the ones she loves.

6. How did he propose?

Jessica: It was my birthday, and so he said we would be going out for dinner that night. He took me to the Riverwalk grill in Sunriver where we had a fancy dinner. Stephen told me his friends mom works there and takes pictures, so the whole night she was taking pictures of us and I didnt know why. Turns out at the end of our meal the waiter brought out dessert, and on that dessert plate was a Tiffany’s box. I opened the box and there was a ring, instantly started crying. Stephen than stood up in front of the whole restaurant and began to say how much he loved me and cared about me. Than he grabbed my hand and got on one knee and proposed. I thought that was the best part of the night..but little did we both know David Archuletta was there eating with his manager and grandpa. The restaurant was closed by this time and so we were the only ones left in there. David’s manager came over to us and asked if we had a song. We said, “No.” She asked if it would be ok if David sang a song to us. So as its just us in the restaurant. David came over and shook our hands and said congratulations and chose a song to sing to just us. He sang the most perfect, cute song, it was amazing! Later that night we found out David had tweeted about singing to us and said congrats to us again on twitter. So Stephen being sneaky, planned having all these pictures taken, so now we have the whole night to look back on in all our pictures. It was by far the best night of my life!!

Stephen: It was her birthday I decided to take her to dinner, little did she know it was a surprise I had the whole evening planned. We had an elegant dinner and as they brought out dessert they brought her, her ring. She was shocked and I got nervous because I knew I had to stand up in front of everyone. Finally, got the nerve to bend down on one knee and asked her to marry me. Shortly after when the restaurant closed David Archuletta wanted to sing a song to us that was “our” song. We told him we didn’t have one, he thought of a song to sing that is very special to us now, and is officially our song now.

7. Wedding theme: I didn’t really have a theme, just wanted to make sure I had lots of roses, and kept the Tiffany color everywhere.

8. Menu: Chicken Salad sandwiches, Red velvet Cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and Tiffany blue pearls , Cookies, fruit variety, Lemonade and water and we had a 3 tier Red Velvet wedding cake.

Jessica:What will always stick out in my head of that day, will be seeing my two nieces walking down before me throwing rose petals than finally seeing Stephen at the end of the aisle smiling will always be my favorite part!

Advice you would like to give to the feature brides and grooms: Realize that planning a wedding is extremely stressful, and can cause many fights and being the bride cause you to be very emotional And to remember its your day, do whatever you want! When the day arrives, cherish it..because it goes by so fast!

Beauty Pageant Winner Bridals in DILLARD'S

As a floral designer who specializes in wedding flowers, I have had the great fortune to become friends with a talented photographer, Tiffany Jane, and together we decided to have a contest wherein a randomly selected winner would receive a free bouquet and photo session for her bridals. After we drew the name from all of the entrants we were surprised to learn that the winner, Stacia, was also a contestant and winner in state pageants!

Stacia had quite a story to tell us – she was a winner in several Utah State Cinderella Pageants from 2007 through 2010. To my question “Why did you decide to compete?” Stacia answered: “I first did it ‘cause I wanted to dress up, but after my first big state pageant I found out how much I gained personally from pageants - not only did I meet a ton of friends from around the state, I gained better poise, self presentation skills, better interviewing skills, and self confidence.” Then Stacia said that most of her dresses for the competitions were purchased from Dillard’s! Perfect! We knew exactly what to do for the photoshoot for Stacia’s bridals!

Arranging for the photoshoot to take place at the Dillard’s in St. George, Utah brought us in contact with Tim, who we found to be a remarkably helpful store manager. I continue to be amazed at the friendly and professional staff who I encounter in the Dillard’s stores. Thank you!!!

For the connoisseur of beautiful flowers, allow me to mention that I arranged the Bridal Bouquet with white Calla Lilies tied with an aqua blue ribbon and accented with pearls on the holder. All Stacia’s favorites!

On the day of the photoshoot, Stacia brought the dresses she wore in the pageants and all of the amazing trophies that she won, and here is what we came up with. A beautiful bride, beautiful flowers, a talented photographer, lovely dresses … and a wonderful setting! I hope you enjoy!

Real wedding: Pink, White & Succulents

Lorena & Jake drove from Los Angeles, CA to tie the knot in beautiful Southern Utah. I enjoyed working with both of them and their families. Such warm, fun and friendly people! I was surprised and delighted when Lorena’s Dad greeted me in Russian.

Well, there is a superstition – that it’s good luck to have rain on your wedding day. Guess what – there was very heavy rain while I was setting up a floral arch (outside). Jake was so nice – he created a tent for me out of a tarp so that I could stay dry while I was fixing flowers on the arch…and in my heart I was asking that the rain would stop by the time the ceremony would start. The rain stopped and the air was so fresh!!! This wedding was absolutely beautiful – with a very warm and homey atmosphere.

"In these economical times we are all trying to cut back. This concept even applies towards your special day. Weddings that used to be lavish events are now turning to simplistic trends.

One thing still rings true: whether you are trying to conserve or splurge, there is a long list of to-dos before you can say, "I do." These lists can sometimes feel endless and take away from the excitement during your engagement. This is where a wedding planner eases the pressure. Is a wedding planner right for you, your budget and your overall event?

1. Do not hire a wedding planner if you want to spend more money. You heard me right, you can save money with a wedding planner. In the past, planners have been perceived for only indulgent couples with money to spare. This is not the case these days. Wedding planners are becoming affordable and can even get you discounts and special rates by consulting through them. Wedding professionals build up relationships with each other and will sometimes give benefits for referring them. On multiple occasions I have seen free services thrown in by a vendor or a price even deducted in half because they went through a wedding planner. Planners can also help you get more bang for your buck. They know how to cut back on certain expenses to make your event look like a splurge even though you might be on a tight budget.

2. Another reason you would not hire a wedding planner is if you can be in two places at once. Brides have a large roll. That is, of course, being the bride. On a wedding day it is not uncommon to have a 16-hour work day, a mop in one hand and an iron in the other. The last thing a bride needs to do is to be steaming linen or polishing silverware before she is about to walk down the middle aisle.

3. Finally, don't hire a wedding planner if you already spend eight or more hours a day reading, writing, researching and dreaming about weddings. Wedding planners are professionals that obsess over weddings, daydream about wedding and are always scheming new trends for weddings. They are full-time wedding guru's that have been doing this for years, not just for a few months of engagement. By tapping into their skills and involving them from the beginning of your initial planning, you will be amazed at the creations that will come to surface giving you the wedding you did not even know was in your reach without breaking the bank. "

Love story: Lorena & Jake

I loved working with Lorena & Jake and I am so honoured to feature their “Love Story” on my blog. Dear Lorena & Jake, thank you soooo much for sharing your story with me…well, I’ll be honest – I became a little bit emotional when I was reading it! Thank you for the tears of happiness.

OCCUPATIONS: Both Graphic Designers

HOW DID YOU MEET?: We met in Beverly Hills, CA when we worked for the same marketing firm as designers. We started dating at work and went to some really ridiculous extremes to keep it a secret.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE? I was sleeping in a bit and Jake came in to talk to me. For a while i was too sleepy to really pay attention but the conversation got pretty serious when he started asking me if I really felt we had what it takes to stay together and make good choices together and withstand the hard times. He asked me how i felt about everything between us and I told him that i truly believed we'd found something special and unique with each other. He nodded and turned over and pulled a box from the nightstand. (it'd been there ALL ALONG!) We both got emotional and he said he was sorry he wasn't proposing in some crazy way but that this felt like the perfect moment in which were being honest with each other. I agreed and thanked him over and over for making it just right. then i finally opened the box and put the ring on!

WEDDING THEME: There was no real theme. I just wanted something timeless and simple.

THE BRIDE WORE: Dress and shoes from David's Bridal

THE GROOM WORE: Black tux with gray vest by Ralph Lauren

Something else you would like to add/share about your wedding planning or wedding day: It's definitely possible to plan a whole wedding in a month, go with your gut instinct, invite who YOU want, make sure the food's good, it's your day - don't worry about ANYTHING!

Advice you would like to give to the feature brides and grooms: No matter what you think it will be, it will most likely be different, but good. Do the dishes for each other because that matters and don't forget to always laugh, especially at yourself.

"Everyone loves a good party or get together. And most of us have been the host to these events where we have done everything from the planning to the shopping to the cooking and hosting. Family get togethers such as reunions, Sunday dinners or Holidays are wonderful because it is a team effort and the most fun is working together and cooking together. Some weddings and special events can be done in this same manner, especially if you have an energetic family and/or close friends who live near by.

There is then the special event when all attention should be elsewhere, such as on the bride, the anniversary couple or the birthday person. This type of event creates the most stress and tends to be more about details and scheduling than about the actual event. What you must ask yourself before you begin your planning is “What is most important?”, “Where should my attention be directed?” and “What will I remember in 10 years”. When you can answer this question you will be able to decide who you need to hire to help in the planning of this special event, whether it be a wedding planner, a photographer, a florist, a caterer, etc.

Whatever you do, remember to delegate.

When you begin the search for a caterer or Restaurant to host one or all of your dining events be sure to be picky. This is not the time to compromise. There are a few things you can look for when you meet your caterer and/or inspect the restaurant.

First Impressions are everything.
Professionalism – Have they done this before?
Options and choices – Will they cater to your needs and wishes?
Do they have menu choices and are they willing to accommodate special requests?
Do they make you feel like this is the most important event of the year? They should, because this is your day.
Can you trust this person to take over the planning and allow you to concentrate on more important things?

Make sure that there is one person who will be in charge of your event and be there to answer all of your questions and put your mind at ease. Get their e- mail so that you communicate as often and whenever you need.

The goal is to take the stress away from you."

Carnations as a wedding flowers? YES!!!

Yes, that’s right! Carnations can be the perfect flowers for your wedding. They are cost effective, very fun to work with, have very reach texture, are available year round and you can get carnations in almost any colour you can imagine. Sounds great? And here is proof!

1. Bridal Bouquet: I used burgundy and white carnations with the burgundy tips as a base for the bouquet. Red Gerbera, green Cymbidium Orchids, green Hypericum and “Date Palms” balls from my garden added an absolutely exquisite look for the bouquet.

"Owning a portrait studio gives you a unique perspective of the wedding industry. From photography, to floral design and catering, I often hear horror stories from people that regret not using a professional. Looking back over the last year, I remember months where we had 3 or 4 brides come in asking us to reshoot wedding photos, or try to fix the ones their Uncle Joe took with his “nice camera.” These brides are victims of an unfortunate situation. Unfortunate because it can be avoided with careful planning. While we can reshoot bridals, or attempt a Photoshop fix, there is nothing we can do to recreate their actual wedding day. The tears and frustration is so heartbreaking to see.

Let’s be real here, there is a lot more to photography than a nice camera. Knowing how to use the camera, knowing how to manage people, averting potential disaster, and capturing the magic are all things that are honed over time. Most people know someone who “has a really nice camera” or they “do photography.” We hear this all the time. Trusting someone other than a professional to record your most precious wedding memories is a decision you will likely regret for the rest of your life.

If your friend or family member is a professional photographer, and that is what they do for a living, then by all means book them! Investing in an outstanding wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make when planning your wedding, but it is a decision that often causes brides a lot of anxiety. Here's a few tips to help you get it right.....

1. Photography Hobbyist - Many brides feel obligated to ask their friend or family member who has a passion for photography to take their wedding portraits. They do not want to hurt their feelings, or they feel like they have no choice. One option for handling this situation is to explain to your friend that you want them to be able to socialize and enjoy the wedding with you. Ask them to handle a specific task such as taking candid shots at the reception. When the wedding is over, your photographs provide you with lasting memories. Let them handle the fun snapshots and trust the professional photographer to capture the essence, details, and beauty of your special day.

2. Personality Matters- Taking portraits is not just about smiling and saying "cheese." It's about the experience. If you have a bad experience, you will remember those feelings every time you look at your portraits. Choose a photographer that is personable and professional. Keep in mind that you should not select a photographer simply based on price! Interview several photographers and get a feel for their portrait style and personality. Pick your photographer based on how well you jive with them, their reputation, and their portfolio. Only then should you have the conversation about price. Trust me, you will never regret spending the extra money to get a photographer with a great personality. If you feel at ease with your photographer, they will capture the real you and what makes YOU so fabulous! Who knows, the photographer you like the best, may be the best value. There are great photographers out there to fit every budget. Don't rush into your decision.

3. Picture Copyright - If you ask frugal brides for one thing that they should have spent more on, chances are it will be the photography. It is definitely worth it to invest in a top notch photographer who will take the kind of artistic photos that you will enjoy forever. Think of all the pictures you may never see again once you select your favorites for your album and enlargements. For this reason, purchasing a portrait disk is something I recommend to every bride. Most photographers have this option available for an additional fee. Make sure to ask your photographer if this is an option. Copyright is always ‘owned’ by the photographer. When purchasing a disk, you get permission to print and use the pictures (for personal use) without paying the photographer again and again. Purchasing a portrait disk can cost you more initially but having all of your pictures and being able to print them at any time is well worth the investment.

Real wedding: Russian - American winter wedding in Southern Utah

I was absolutely delighted to work with Kate & Matt and here is why. I got a call from Kate at 8.30 pm (yes, I always keep my cell phone with me & answer if I can) and we were chatting for a while before Katya told me that she is Russian. She didn’t have any accent and so I was eager to know her story. Katya and her Mom came to America several years ago because of Svetlana’s marriage. Katya was a little girl at that time and that is why her English sounds native.

Well, I don’t speak Russian a lot in America, and so it was really fun to plan this wedding speaking in my native tongue. It was a kick, and I was absolutely delighted to meet with Katya’s Mom and her American Dad. The ceremony and wedding were held at the elegant “The Ledges of Saint George”.

Katya & Matt wanted to keep their wedding ceremony very private and so only immediate family was invited. The ceremony took place in front of the fire place adorned with a tall colourful arrangement on each side.

For her bouquet Katya insisted on having 2 dozen red roses “Black Magic” with a sparkly touch of “diamonds”.

She insisted that the rest of the wedding flowers be very colourful.

For the table décor Katya chose to have “Royal Blue” Lamoure linen, a big colourful centrepiece with six candles around it. Katya wanted to give the flowers as a gift to some of her close friends. It’s one of the Russian traditions to give the flowers as a hand tied bouquet without a vase and so we decided to incorporate it into the design.

I arranged flowers as a big colourful hand tired bouquet with royal blue Hydrangeas, orange Asiatic Lilies, white and red Roses, Sunflowers, white Gerbera, Thistle and more. The bouquet holder was wrapped with Aspidistra leaf and secured with royal blue wire. For the vase, we used an 8” tall bowl vase. The arrangement looked absolutely amazing!

For the wrist corsages we had Red Roses fixed on royal blue wire. The ladies loved it!

It was my pleasure to work with Katya & Matt and Katya’s dear parents Svetlana and Ed.

7 tips on how to have the wedding flowers of your dreams while staying budget conscious

Today I would like to share with you, the Brides, some tips on how to have the wedding flowers of your dreams while staying budget conscious.

1. Rent the vases from your florist instead of buying them: it will save you time and money. Also, florists who specialized in weddings often have a large variety of interesting vases.

2. Use your toss bouquet as flowers for a cake top: you are paying for one item but using it in two different ways.

3. One big arrangement as a focal point in the center of the reception area or buffet table can create a greater visual impact than 10 smaller arrangements placed here and there. In the end the large arrangement may cost less.

4. After the ceremony use you ceremony décor as the centerpieces for your reception. For example, a pomander ball can be used as an aisle décor for a ceremony and then if you put it on top of a vase it will create a great centerpiece.

5. Place a few flowers inside a tall vase and it will look beautiful!

6. Use the rule of half and half for your table centerpieces: for example, 4 big/tall arrangements & 4 small/ low arrangements.

7. Hire a professional florist for your wedding. She/he will be able to offer you tons of ideas, priceless tips and suggestions, save your time and sometimes even your wedding.

Ghost Town Bridals in Southern Utah

My dear friend and very talented photographer Tiffany Jane shared with me these AMAZING pictures of Karisa's Bridals. This very stylish Bridals took place in a Ghost town in Southern Utah. Tiffany told me that it was VERY hot that day (like 110 degrees or so) but every single image turned out just gorgeous! Enjoy!!

Bridal bouquet includes red Roses "Freedom" and Calla Lilly "Mango". Black ribbon was used for the bouquet holder. Very simple but it looks absolutely awesome!!!

Congratulations to Sammie & Kameron, who were married on March 26^thWhat a fun wedding it was! This couple was such a blast to work with due to their warm hearts and fun personalities.

Main Colors: Green, Brown, rustic Orange.
Main Flowers: Calla Lilly, Hydrangea, Cymbidium Orchids, Bells of Ireland, Pussy Willow, Tulips

Bar Arrangement: Five clear cylinder vases were arranged in a row on the bar table and filled with pussy willow & a single orange gerbera daisy in each vase.

Centerpices #1: Bells of Ireland, Hydrangea, Gerbera, Tulips arranged together in a tall vase.

Centerpiece #2: Pussy Willow, Hydrangea, Roses, Tulips in a short vase.

Bridal bouquet: Large white Calla Lilies arranged with Pussy Willow in a hand tied bouquet. This bouquet has an amazingly elegant & fresh look. Brown ribbon around the bouquet holder completes the design of this striking bouquet.

2 in 1 - Great idea for a Cake flowers - Toss bouquet was placed on top of the cake.

Launch Your World - social event for Elan Woman

I was so thrilled to be part of the planning and designing an amazing event “Launch Your World” #1. Darci Hansen, the editor of Elan Woman Magazine, created this amazing opportunity for women who have a dream to create their own business.

Launch Your World (LYW), a year-long series of educational and social gatherings for women is designed to bring together professionals who have entrepreneurial expertise or who have succeeded in their own grass roots evolution, who are willing to share the key information required to build a business from the ground up.

This is arrangement that I created that was ispired by the work of Preston Bailey: Pink stargezer lilies, green spider Chrisanthemums, antique green Hydrangea, hot pink Roses, hot pink Carnations, green moss, green apples, green grapes, Curley willow. Preston Bailey is one of my favorite designers and I had so much fun designing this masterpiece for LYW.

To create this Manzanita tree centerpiece I used: pink Gerbera with black center, green apples, Curley willow, Manzanita tree branch, green moss.

For this very fun Gerbera & Green Apple centerpiece I used: pink Gerbera with green center, green apples, pink wire and 10" tall clear glass vase.

This little cute arrangement got a lot of attention and compliments. To be honest, I love this green apple and Gerbera arrangement too. After the party I gave it as a gift to the quests.

Most important thing is to document and be mindful of what they want. As far as photography style, etc., they are the boss!

When the bride smiled all night and after post processing and editing are completed, and the pictures are fabulous!

What is the best piece of advice you can offer a bride and groom on their wedding day?

Southern Utah winter wedding: Cimmaron & Nick

Cimmaron is an absolutely amazing young lady with deep blue eyes. And it was an absolutely delightful experience working with all 3 of these amazing ladies: Cimmaron, her mom Tammie and Nick’s (groom) mom Stacy. For her bridal pictures, Cimmaron chose to have an absolutely amazing flower combination: burgundy and white with burgundy tips Carnations, green Cymbidium Orchids, green Coffee Beans (Hypericum), red Gerberas. Pictures were taken by a talented young photographer from SimpleElegancePhotos

Cimmaron & Nick’s wedding colors were green and plum purple. The wedding and reception were held at the beautiful Bell Tower Reception Center.

For her Wedding bouquet Cimmaron asked to include chocolate Dalia, antique green Hydrangea, green Hypericum (Coffee Beans) and burgundy Calla Lily. The bouquet was absolutely striking!

For the centrepieces she decided to have 3 burgundy Calla Lilly with limes on the bottom of a 16” tall clear glass rectangular vase.

The wedding cake was done by Yvonne from the Bridal Cakes by Yvonne.

Recently UtahBrideBlog featured a couple florists' experiences that could be considered floral disasters. I wrote up an experience I've seen recently. Here it is:

I once received a call from a bride-to-be just one week before her wedding. She said that one of her relatives was going to do flowers for her, but she then found out that it wasn't happening because this “dear” relative decided that she could not come to the wedding. As you can imagine, this poor bride was in a panic… So, she ordered all of her personal flowers and the flowers for her ceremony décor through me. She insisted, however, that her mother would arrange the centerpieces and all I needed to do was to provide her with the fresh flowers for her mom to arrange.

I delivered all of the flowers to the wedding and when I gave the mom flowers for her to arrange in the centrepieces she rolled her eyes and screamed: ”I don't know anything about flowers, I have never arranged flowers in my life, why did she want me to do the flowers?” As you might suspect, they didn’t have any tools for trimming and preparing the flowers, and so the bride's father brought some pliers from the toolbox in his car to cut the flower stems!

Ooops, time to call 911. I just couldn't standback and watch these beautiful flowers get trimed with pliers from the dad and arranged by the hysterical mom. So, of course, I grabed my floral knife and went to work to help them arrange the flowers for the centerpieces... just to save the Bride from all the stress…a screaming Mom who had no clue how to do the flowers and a Dad who wanted to cut the stems with pliers. This dear girl seems like the person who “stepped on the same rake twice”…trusting a relative to do the flowers only to have her, at the last minute, decide that she couldn't come to the wedding and then insisting that her mom could do the centerpieces. And in both cases, it was a professional florist who stepped in to help her get through the crisis! Perhaps she could have saved herself an awful lot of stress if she had just contacted me in the first place! In these tough economic times it is easy to “waste a dime to save a penney.”

Southern Utah spring wedding: Taunie & Brent

I love to hear couples’ love stories and proposals. They are all so different! Taunie & Brent’s story was rather unique and I love the way he proposed to Taunie – Brent bought a full page in the Spectrum to ask Taunie to marry him. And she said “YES!”

Their dream wedding was an event full of flowers – tulips, gerbera, hydrangea, calla, roses – just name a few. I was absolutely amazed by Brent’s knowledge of flowers – I don’t meet a lot of grooms who are so involved in to the floral planning for a wedding.

The choice of flowers and floral arrangements were amazing! Brent & Taunie wanted to achieve a WOW effect for the reception where flowers must be a main accent of the wedding décor. The main colours were: dark orange, red, gold and burgundy. The flowers were everywhere!

For the reception centrepieces Brent & Taunie insisted to have 3 different styles of arrangements:

1. Almost 400 of 4 different colours tulips were arranged in tall centrepieces with almost 100 tulips in each arrangement with curly willow and hanging Amaranthus accent in a slim trumpet vase.

2. Colourful arrangement in a square vase with accent of Monstera leaf and curly willow inside of the vase. Both arrangements are different.

3. Playful arrangement with the mix of flowers in a clear glass rectangular vase. Both arrangements are different.

For her bouquet Taunie wanted to include green Hydrangea, red Gerbera, Calla Lily “Mango” and “Black Magic” Rose. As you can see the result is amazing!

Brent wanted for boutonniere to match Taunie’s bouquet and so he wanted to have a Calla Lily “Mango”, Green Hypericum and burgundy ribbon accent.

Two interesting vases with set of 8 tubes are filled with large white Calla Lilies and Bear Grass and placed at the entrance to the reception hall.

Brent & Taunie’s wedding was held one day before the Easter and so they wanted to incorporate a little bit of Easter in to the wedding. A basket filled with coloured eggs and flowers were placed on a buffet table.

Two big arrangements were placed on the pillars where Taunie & Brent meet their guests.

The 3 tiers cake was covered with the flowers as well. Beautiful!

Taunie & Brent are absolutely amazing couple with very fun and generous personality. I’m not surprised that they have so many friends who came to their wedding from all over the country just one day before the Easter.

I had a lot fun designing flowers for the wedding but most of all I am very glad to get to know such an amazing couple as Taunie & Brent. The wedding was tastefully planned from the proposal and invitations till the reception site and all wedding décor.

Las Vegas wedding videography: Memory Lane Video

I met Ricky Gulati from Memory Lane Video about 1 year ago in one of the classes at the International School of Hospitality in Las Vegas, where I received my certification in wedding coordination and design.

I was absolutely amazed by his friendly approach to talking with each and every student. He appeared to be sincerely interested in why we were there and why we wanted to become Certified Wedding Professionals. He shared with us his expertise and took time to answer every question we had for him.

Since then, I have seen a lot of Ricky’s wedding videos. I also love to watch his series “Coffee with Ricky” where he interviews exceptional wedding professionals.

My own criteria for excellent work – it has to touch my heart. When I see Ricky’s masterpieces – I cry, I laugh, I want to watch it until the very end. He can be funny, serious, silly, innovative, but never ordinary!

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend hiring Ricky to anyone who wants to have an absolutely memorable wedding video.

What first attracted you to work on weddings?
When I got married I didn’t get to choose my cake. My husband hated the flavor and it wasn’t what I would have wanted. I think every bride and groom should choose for themselves and have their cake designed just for them.

How did you get started?
I started by doing birthday cakes for friends and family and it just took off from there.

Where do you get the inspiration for your work?
From my clients. I listen and make suggestions. I am very artsy so it is easy to visualize what they are saying.

What are the hottest trends in weddings right now?
The only trends that really come into play would be colors. Red and black are popular.

Why would a client choose you over your competition?
Because I am new to the business I tend to be less expensive.

What is the best (most interesting, most inspiring) wedding experience you’ve ever had?
It would have to be when they tell me about themselves and let me design the cake to fit who they are. One cake I’ve done had one tier designed for her, one for him, and one was a combination of the two. I was a very nice and one of a kind cake.

What is the most unusual (craziest, funniest) wedding experience you’ve ever had?
Where their wedding cake looked like a festive birthday cake.

What was your most challenging wedding experience?
That would have to be trying to design a cake when not given much direction. Most brides know what they want but there are some who have a harder time deciding.

Describe your dream wedding experience (what you would most like to be hired to do / to create for a wedding)?
Most of my cakes have been smaller. I would love to create a large cake.

When you work with the couple, what do you like to focus on? What is most important to you?
What they want and envision. It is all about listening and putting together what they want.

After a wedding, how do you know that you have succeeded in your work? When are you most pleased and satisfied with your work?
I am a perfectionist and won’t stop until I achieve that. Unfortunately when doing a cake you’re not there to see the satisfaction and most of the time you don’t hear back from them. But when I am given compliments it is nice to know they were pleased.

What is the best piece of advice you can offer a bride and groom on their wedding day?
When it comes to cakes the best advice I can give is to know your budget before hand so adjustments can be made to fit that budget and their wishes as far as design goes.

What did you do prior to your current work?
Full time stay at home mom.

If you didn’t work on weddings for a living, what would you be doing instead?
I am not sure. I have been looking for a field that uses all of my talents and that will benefit me. I kind of stumbled into this but I am so grateful I did because I absolutely love it!

What are some of your hobbies?
Scrapbooking, art, sewing, floristry, anything crafty, baking.

Describe yourself - what makes you unique and interesting?
Well, my situation may be unique to some. I am still a full time mom and run my business out of my home. A lot of times it just means late nights and lots of help from my very supportive husband and family. I really enjoy what I do and love seeing the end product.

What first attracted you to work on weddings?
I love design & creativity- so what better place than in wedding photography! Each couple is unique and have their own style. I love capturing that style and documenting the pieces of their special day as they are preserved through pictures for them to enjoy.

How did you get started?
I got started in photography as a favor to a friend to take some quick pictures of her children and the then the phone started ringing. I started in wedding photography because my sister is an amazing designer and coordinator and in helping her I quickly became enchanted with the whole wedding experience.

Where do you get the inspiration for your work?
EVERYWHERE! Blogs and websites, & magazines. But mostly from the bride & groom. Couples’ personalities dictate the direction we take. It‘s all about them!

What are the hottest trends in weddings right now?
Trends put brides in unusual places these days: a gorgeous bride in her dress on a railroad track or a back alley. I think these are un trendy shots, but I also like to mix in some timeless closeups that show the raw emotion without all the fun distractions.

Why would a client choose you over your competition?
Personality and genuine excitement! I truly am thrilled for the couple. I’m thrilled they’re happy! I’m thrilled they are in love! I want them to have everything they dream of! I haven’t done a wedding yet that I don’t still cry when they say “I do”. They are not just another shoot.

What is the best (most interesting, most inspiring) wedding experience you’ve ever had?
They are all amazing in their own way...a sister from overseas surprised the family once by showing up unexpected! That was so neat to be a part of. For another bride it was the last dance she had with her grandfather before he passed away. Each wedding has a moment that is just right for them.

What is the most unusual (craziest, funniest) wedding experience you’ve ever had?
I shot one wedding with a huge family fued during the reception. I wasn’t sure if I should photograph the screaming or not HeeHee

What was your most challenging wedding experience?
Each one is a new challenge that I look forward to as it creates a unique experience every time.

Describe your dream wedding experience (what you would most like to be hired to do / to create for a wedding)?
I’d love to do a destination wedding at a rustic/vintage location. The texture and character of a wedding like this would be a dream!

When you work with the couple, what do you like to focus on? What is most important to you?
That’s simple...THEM! What’s most important to me is what’s most important to them.

After a wedding, how do you know that you have succeeded in your work? When are you most pleased and satisfied with your work?
I know I’ve succeeded when the phone rings and a referral comes in from a past bride and groom. It gives me butterflies and is the best compliment I can get.

What is the best piece of advice you can offer a bride and groom on their wedding day?
Remember what’s important...prepare for the event, create a day to remember and then relax and enjoy it!! Don’t stress over a late limo driver or a missing centerpiece. The day is still beautiful, it’s still yours and you’re together!!

What did you do prior to your current work?
I’ve done design and marketing for over 10 years.

If you didn’t work on weddings for a living, what would you be doing instead?
Just what I am working with families and children. It’s so fun being a part of the wedding, the first child, then the family as they grow.

What are some of your hobbies?
I love digital scrapbooking and I’m working on my limited cooking skills.

Describe yourself - what makes you unique and interesting?
I’m not super interesting, but I’ve been told that I’m always happy! I love to multi task and always have some new idea or pose or location in mind for my next shoot. Maybe that just makes my compulsive! HA!

Beautiful Southern Utah Wedding: Nicole & Colton

It's been amazing to work with Nicole and Colton to create the perfect floral accents for their perfect wedding day.

Usually the bride or her mother call to inquire about flowers and to set the first appointment for us to meet, but not this time! Colton was the one who called to find out more about what I could offer. And as we met, Nicole and Colton worked together on everything. They are destined to have a wonderful marriage as they continue to collaborate on the important decisions in life as they did on the flowers and colors for their wedding!

I love a good challenge, and certainly one of the really fun aspects of this wedding was the complete absence of greens of any kind in the boutonnieres and bouquets.

Nicole wanted a completely white bouquet, and certainly the splendid cascade of white flowers that we designed was breathtaking, just like the radiant bride! Interestingly, Nicole didn't want any roses in her bouquet, and so we used a combination of white Oriental lily, Dahlia and Lisianthus to create her distinctive bridal bouquet!

Colton wanted unusual boutonnieres for himself and for his groomsmen. We decided to use a very interesting and attractive plant that is native to the area where they held their wedding – never mind that it is most commonly thought of as a weed! As you can see, even a weed such as thistle can dress up beautifully for such a special occasion!

Although banned from the bouquets, roses were certainly not absent from the festivities. A path of beautifully colored rose petals led to where the ceremony took place. This part of their journey was certainly adorned with color and beauty!

Colton and Nicole also insisted on very colorful floral arrangements to decorate the festivities. This was an absolutely perfect fit, given their fun and playful personalities. With royal blue, silver and white as their wedding colors we were able to develop some really striking combinations of flowers that brought even more life to the scene.

As part of the table decor we created two distinctive styles of arrangements. One of these was based on a tall rectangular vase that included blue wire inside and a colorful arrangement on top. The other was more of a globe shaped vase with live beta fish swimming inside, again topped with a colorful floral arrangement.

I am sure that you can see why I absolutely adore designing flowers for weddings! Working with such friendly, intelligent, thoughtful and fun people as Nicole and Colton make my job absolutely delightful! They were so easy to work with, and it was great fun to have a part in this beautiful day that is just one step in their lifelong love story.

FLOWERS

Choosing a florist where organically grown, in-season, local flowers are used can be a much better earth friendly choice. This will remove the need for long-distance transportation.
Ask your florist to use local and seasonal flowers, berries and fruits (more availability means better pricing, plus buying local saves on fuel emissions).
Reuse your flowers that day by transforming ceremony flowers into table decorations at the reception-similarly, ceremony decorations can be used to dress up the dance floor. After the party, donate them to a local hospital or senior citizen center or send them home with your guests.
Use rental vases instead of buying new. Florists usually have a big variety of the vases to rent – it will help you to save money and it is good for an environment.
Ask your florist not to use floral and Styro foam.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

Ask your caterer to use local and seasonal fruits and vegetables (more availability means better pricing, plus saves on fuel emissions)

Ask your caterer to recycle cans, bottles, paper plates.

What first attracted you to work on weddings?
I love shooting all sorts of different events, but weddings are JUST more romantic. I am a sucker for love pictures and so that is my most favorite thing to photograph.

How did you get started?
I received my AA in photography many years ago working with film and in the dark room, but it wasn't until my sister in law, who is a photographer, talked me into doing it as a business a few years later. I was married and we had a baby, and we were SO poor that I was willing to try anything to help pay the bills. I didn't expect it to pick up so fast but it was and still is a huge blessing to me and my family.

Where do you get the inspiration for your work?
Honestly, I see it everywhere. Sometimes a commercial will come on TV that will pop ideas in my head. I love looking in any magazine at the photography and analyzing it, anywhere from billboards to posters, to viewing amazing photographers' work that I admire.

What are the hottest trends in weddings right now?
Cute COLORED shoes for brides (no more white shoes these days), photo booths at receptions, more urban and crazy on location bridals and engagements, and mostly CANDID photojournalism that shows more feeling than posey perfect portraits.

Why would a client choose you over your competition?
Because my pictures are exploding with LOVE, emotion, and color. I give it my all, and I always become friends with my clients and try to really make them the focus of everything.

What is the best (most interesting, most inspiring) wedding experience you’ve ever had?
There are too many weddings to choose from. I always cry during the daddy daughter dances, I really have way too much fun with the wedding party pictures, and at the end of the day I'm EXHAUSTED with the good feeling of being a part of someone else's most important day of their lives.

What is the most unusual (craziest, funniest) wedding experience you’ve ever had?
Hm I have had a few funny moments...one time I was taking pictures of a couple and a big group of people were watching me from behind when I accidently kicked my shoe off trying to demonstrate what I wanted the bride to do, and it flew about 15 feet OFF of my foot.

What was your most challenging wedding experience?
One time I didn't bring an assistant for a huge wedding, and I will NEVER do it again! I had to haul ALL of my gear around, and I wasted tons of time setting things up and getting things ready. Lesson learned.

Describe your dream wedding experience (what you would most like to be hired to do / to create for a wedding)?
My dream wedding is photographing a small wedding on a beach on an overcast day in San Diego.

When you work with the couple, what do you like to focus on? What is most important to you?
My most important task is to capture the realness of a couple's personalities and chemistry.

After a wedding, how do you know that you have succeeded in your work? When are you most pleased and satisfied with your work?
I feel like I have succeeded when I walk away from a wedding knowing that I made friends, had a blast, and being excited to go home and look at all the pictures I have taken.

What is the best piece of advice you can offer a bride and groom on their wedding day?
Whatever you do, hire a good photographer. You get what you pay for, and the only things you walk away with from your wedding are 1-a new spouse 2- a new family 3- a wedding dress 4- your pictures. I have never heard anyone regret paying more for a professional photographer, but I have had PLENTY of people complain to me that they wished they had really beautiful pictures to look back at.

What did you do prior to your current work?
Stay at home mom.....well that also depends on how far back we go.

If you didn’t work on weddings for a living, what would you be doing instead?
I love the clinical side of athletic training. If I was not a stay at home mom I would LOVE to help people who have been in accidents or have injuries with muscle rehabilitation. Random huh?

What are some of your hobbies?
Volleyball (yes I still love to play), piano, I spent my younger years surfing the beaches in San Diego, and I really really want to learn how to restore furniture if time ever permits it.

Describe yourself - what makes you unique and interesting?
I am mostly a happy person. I am a monster in the mornings, and my kids to make me swear sometimes, but I love my life and I have learned that it's too short to take too seriously.

DIY flowers: how to make your Snowman Clause with flowers !

I was born and raised in Siberia and as a kid I loved making snowmen (with lots of snow). I grew up, but I still have a youthful spirit and I still love making snowmen. “Unfortunately” there is not very much snow in Saint George, but now I have another beautiful and handy material with which to create a snowman – flowers!

Here are some helpful tips for attending a bridal show:

You might have to wait in line for just a few minutes to register. Be patient! It is well worth it.

It can be really convenient to bring some preprinted self-adhesive address labels or cards with your contact information.. This really saves a lot of time when you want to sign up for anything .

Bring a pen and print very clearly when registering for contests or to receive additional information.

You may want to have your checkbook handy in case you decide tobook a vendor or services or to hold dates with a deposit. MAKE SURE THAT YOU CHECK THE REFUND POLICY AND READ THE CONTRACT CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU GIVE PAYMENT OR SIGN ANYTHING.

Be sure to collect any information that interests you so that you can take it home to look over again when you have the time.

If you aren't available on the day of the show then send someone close to you – perhaps your mother, sister or a friend to register you for prizes and to collect information about the services you might be interested in.

Wear a "Bride-to-be" sticker will get you special attention from the vendors.

Perhaps your fiance will be willing to attend with you, but only IF he is interested. As many as 30% do attend, so he won't be the only one there!

Make sure that you arrive at least one hour prior to the time of any fashion show that you want to see. Seating is first come-first serve.

Dear Fellow Wedding Professionals of St. George UT,

Beginning in January of 2010 I will be teaching wedding classes on many of the elements that are important to creating a successful event. I will be presenting the participants with information about resources and options that are available in Southern Utah. Participants in the class will be offered handouts from the various vendors in the area. If you would like for me to include your brochures / pamphlets (cost of your service, available packages, special offers and etc.) I would be happy to include this information in the packet that is given to the class participants. I will need at least 25 copies of your materials. You can mail them to me directly at the address listed below or I would be happy to pick them up (in the Saint George, UT area) – and of course, I would love to talk with you more about this amazing opportunity to help and support the Brides and their families as they plan that special day. I will also be looking for experts in the wedding industry to help present information about their area of expertise – venues, catering, gowns/attire, cakes, flowers, photography/videography, invitations, entertainment, wedding consulting, budgets, wedding etiquette etc. Presenters will focus on useful tips, latest trends, and related information that will be useful to brides and their families as they plan for the Big Day (this is NOT designed to be a sales pitch for any one vendor). Southern Utah wedding flowers: Leah & Ivan's fall wedding

Leah & Ivan had their ceremony at Town Hall in Washington, UT in October. For her bouquet Leah chose an absolutely striking combination of flowers: Mocara Orchids, Roses "Black Magic" & "Circus", "Mango" Calla Lily. The flowers looked an absolutely perfect in her cascade style bouquet. Look at Leah's eyes - they are spirkling!

A bride’s wedding day is one of the most special days of her life. While photographing every detail I get to capture her happiness, share in her joy, laugh, cry, and be part of every emotion the day brings. What a treat it is to be a part of her wonderful celebration.

I find that my best work is inspired by emotion. If I can capture a moment or detail that touches my heart, it usually turns out wonderful.

What are the hottest trends in weddings right now?
Wedding photography has taken a turn towards the photo journalistic approach. It’s all about telling the story of your wedding day with gorgeous, casual, un-posed images full of detail and emotion.

What is the most unusual wedding experience you’ve ever had?

The funniest wedding I’ve ever gotten to be a part of was Colton & Nicole’s. During the wedding ceremony when the groom was just about to say “I do”, he called a huddle with his groom’s men and made sure he had their complete approval before proceeding. Luckily they did and the bride had a sense of humor!

What was your most challenging wedding experience?
My most memorable wedding challenge was at Riley & Jakelle’s wedding. It was at the beautiful Manti Temple and it was a balmy 6 degrees outside. I wore my tall leather boots to keep my legs warm in the deep snow, but didn’t realize how slick they were on the bottom. I gracefully slid half way down the hill…without falling or dropping my camera.

Wedding Anniversary: The Heart of 14 Dozen Roses.

I love, love, love to create Custom Floral Arrangements! Because every custom creation is a piece of the heart and soul which a person strives to put into it. Very often custom arrangements are full of symbolism reflecting memorable moments. It is something you can not find by walking into your corner store. Instead, it is something unique, distinctive and touching.

This Floral Heart of 14 Dozen Red Roses was created for a very special wedding anniversary. A dear friend of the couple ordered it for them.

I added a little touch of “diamonds” and pearls in the heart and a few ice drops in the clear glass vase.

I am always thrilled to hear about the reaction of people who get the flower arrangements that I have had the honor of creating just for them. This time I got an SMS on my phone “They looooooved it!” It was the perfect end of a wonderful day.

How did you get started?

What is the most unusual (craziest, funniest) wedding experience you’ve ever had?

Anything Muslim, they have interesting practices and beliefs.

What is the best (most interesting, most inspiring) wedding experience you’ve ever had?

Russian weddings, they are truly the best. Lots of food, drinks and fun. Happy Happy people.

Where do you get the inspiration for your work?

My grandmother (Lila) always taught me to follow my dreams. I also love networking with people and hearing about their experiences which inspires me to create my own grand experiences.

Why do your clients choose you over some of your competition?

Because they know and trust me and my business advertises mainly by word of mouth. My clients know that I will not let them down and I will give 120%. They know that I treat their event as if it where my own.

What is the best piece of advice you can offer a bride and groom on their wedding day?

Prepare a budget and stick to it. I would also add keep the communications open, the groom has know idea what the bride is thinking and remember he’s mostly likely new to this adventure.

Beth was an amazingly well organized Bride and she knew exactly what she wanted, including the style, colors and types of flowers. Beth's wedding colors were blue, white and orange. I must say that Beth and her Mom both have highly refined taste and style.

Her choice of Hydrangea during the hot May weather in St. George, UT created a bit of challenge, as hydrangea don’t like heat, and they like to drink tons of water. Of course, we were able to manage it because I always give 120% to make sure that my Brides get exactly the look that they want.

Fragrant Gardenia stood by themselves to create striking corsages for the Moms.

Yvonne from Bridal Cake by Yvonne created a true masterpiece wedding cake for this stylish spring wedding.

Beth’s bouquet included blue Hydrangea, Hypericum, Orange Calla Lilly, Gardenia and Oregonia. The Bouquet was wrapped in a designer’s fabric and included several rings of white pearls. The antique look of this bouquet was absolutely gorgeous! A Great match for the Exquisite Bride!

Bridesmaid's Bouquets included elegant Orange Calla Lilly and Green Hypericum wrapped in a cream ribbon.

Flowers, Handbag & Shoe

One of my customers asked me to create floral handbag & shoe for her best friend's birthday. The main request was to include pink and orange roses into design. Well..I must admit that I had so much fun creating these 2 True Lady's attributes. And I was absolutely happy to see an amazing reaction of my customer when she saw these...she started dancing! How fun!
